Tariffs, Trade and Turbulence: A Balanced Look at U.S. Trade Policy and Its Global Implications

In recent years, U.S. trade policy has undergone a dramatic shift, with the Trump Administration’s aggressive use of tariffs sparking intense debate across political, economic, and legal spheres. Supporters argue that tariffs protect American industries and jobs and will help rebalance asymmetric trading relationships, while critics warn of rising prices, strained international relations, and long-term economic costs.

Join the UCLA Anderson Center for Global Management (CGM) and the UCLA School of Law’s Lowell Milken Institute for Business Law and Policy (LMI) for a timely and thought-provoking conversation that explores the real-world impacts of tariff policy on global business and legal frameworks.

The discussion will feature Kimberly Clausing, economist and UCLA Law professor, providing a critical perspective on the policy’s economic and legal implications. She will be joined by Romain Wacziarg, Professor of Economics and Faculty Director of the Center for Global Management at UCLA Anderson. Together, they will engage in a dynamic and balanced discussion on the future of U.S. trade policy, the role of tariffs in a globalized economy, and the legal complexities that underpin international commerce.

Open to UCLA Anderson and Law School students only
By Invitation only. RSVP required.
